Getting Real About Harmonizing Your Life

Our family really looks forward to our Saturdays!  Saturday is our Relax, Rest, and Rejuvenate day. We don’t cook, we don’t clean, we don’t do laundry…heck, we don’t even make the bed! It’s our Sabbath-we take the day to do whatever we want that is relaxing. Sometimes we will stay in our pajamas!

When some people think of harmonizing their lives, they think of a beautiful home. A home that is perfectly clean, perfectly organized, dishes done, every speck of laundry completed, folded, and put away. And on top of that, we might even think a life of harmony is having all that PLUS three perfect, beautiful, healthy, delicious meals for our families. And then we wake up from our dream. At least I know I do!

Part of harmonizing my life has included coming up with a schedule of when I’m going to spend time with my God; just Him and myself. Then schedule date night with my husband (usually Fridays), schedule in family times, and then scheduling in work/business/blog times. Of course everything else is scheduled in too-grocery shopping, cleaning, meal planning, meal prepping, dance classes, and volunteer activities. But one of the best things I did (after scheduling God, hubby, and family into my schedule) was schedule a NO WORK day.

Our week is obviously hectic, and believe it or not we do have lives too :) But we love our Saturdays because it’s our time to really relax, spend time together, rest…did I mention RELAX?

Of course there are weeks when we have company over on Saturday, which means I do need to cook, or clean, or do whatever. Then we schedule our rest day for another day! Of course we usually only have Saturday and Sunday to choose from…worse comes to worse we only spend half a day resting. But so far that hasn’t happened yet since we started this in December.

And now I’m going to get real with you. Here is our house on a rest day. It’s a mess!

Even Claire loves it because she gets to play…

and Play!

Socks are optional of course.

Even our dog PJ loves it!

So if you are trying to harmonize your life, let’s get real about what that really means. It does not mean you have a spot less house that looks like it came out of a magazine, especially if you have kids. You need to find out what it means to you-and once you schedule your day of rest, you will be able to spend that day on harmonizing your life rather than cleaning, cooking, or laundry. You might just find that it was just what you needed to create balance in your schedule.

What is the one thing you LOVE to do, or look forward to doing to relax?

  1. I struggle with my house. I love it to be clean and orderly, but when I focus on its perfection I miss the moments, small but significant, with my girls. They’ll be out of the house in a little less than six years. I’ll make the house perfect then. Lovely post and photos.

    • That is so sweet Kimberly, thanks for stopping! I can relate, I really really do love to clean and organize, it de-stresses me. However, you are correct. They are small for only so long, and even when it comes to our husbands or significant others, or ourselves, our lives are really so short, sometimes we have to put aside time for our selves.

  2. I love that you do this- and think of it as harmonizing, because that’s what it sounds like taking a day off and just being family will do! Such a great practice! Thank you for sharing on Photo Friday! We hope to see you next week and wish you a great weekend!

    • Thanks Deirdre! That is such a sweet comment :) I feel like I’ve taken a whole weekend, I’ve been a little under the weather and maybe enjoying it too much ha ha! You have a great weekend yourself, look forward to linking up next Friday. I have you in my Friday folder :)

  3. Thanks for the reminder! We spend so much of our time being ‘busy’ and forget how important rest is to every other aspect of our lives – healthy minds, bodies, relationships, spirituality, etc!

  4. I love this! We take a half day on Saturday and a half day on Sunday to spend the day relaxing together. It’s so helpful. Thank you for sharing and thank you for the visit and sweet comment at The Dedicated House. Would love it if you would share this at my Make it Pretty Monday party. Hope to see your relaxed self at the party. Toodles, Kathryn @TheDedicatedHouse

  5. Thanks for being real! Oh, and your house isn’t that messy. :)

    • Thanks Krysta! No, that wasn’t too bad of a day, you should have seen it today! For some reason when I go out of town, even just for ONE night, the house is a sty all week long!
